Renew Your Driver’s License Without Visiting LTO: A Step-by-Step Guide Through eGovPH

Filipino motorists can now renew their driver’s licenses entirely online through the government’s official eGovPH app, following the Land Transportation Office’s (LTO) rollout of its new digital renewal system.

Spearheaded by the Department of Transportation (DOTr), LTO, and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), the initiative is part of a broader push to centralize public services and eliminate fixer-related issues, lengthy queues, and delays—especially for Filipinos living abroad.

“These digitalization efforts are designed to make LTO transactions fast and comfortable for all our clients,” said Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II. “As instructed by President Marcos through Secretary Vince Dizon, we continue to evolve and expand the reach of our services, even to overseas Filipinos.”

Step-by-Step Guide to Online License Renewal
The eGovPH app is available on Google Play and the Apple App Store, and offers a simplified license renewal process:

  1. Install the eGovPH app and complete identity verification.
  2. Tap the NGA icon, select LTO, then choose Online Driver’s Application.
  3. Click Renew Your Driver’s License.
  4. Upload photos of the front and back of your physical license.
  5. Wait for system validation (typically within 1–3 minutes).
  6. Review all personal information for accuracy.
  7. Take a self-photo following LTO’s format standards.

Prerequisites for Renewal
Before submitting their application, users must complete:

  • A Telemedicine Medical Exam via the LTO ODLRS portal
  • A Driver’s Enhancement Program (DEP)—a five-hour online module covering traffic rules and road safety

Payment and Digital Delivery
Once requirements are fulfilled, applicants may proceed with payment via available gateways. Upon successful payment:

  • A Digital Driver’s License (eDL) is automatically generated and viewable within the app
  • Users can opt for courier delivery or personally pick up their physical card at an LTO district office

“A successful transaction already confirms that the license is renewed,” Asec. Mendoza explained, adding that the e-license is legally valid and functions just like the physical card.
