As the digital payments landscape evolves at a breakneck pace, Visa is taking proactive steps to ensure the local financial workforce is ready for the future. The global digital payments leader has officially introduced “Visa University,” a comprehensive global learning platform designed to advance professional education and upskill banking and fintech professionals in the Philippines.
Combining Visa’s deep payments expertise with real-world global and regional case studies, the platform aims to drive capacity building in the local finance sector and prepare professionals for the next wave of digital commerce.
Equipping the Next Generation of Finance Leaders
Led by Visa Consulting and Analytics (VCA), the company’s strategic advisory and analytics arm that helps clients navigate the complex world of payments and commerce, Visa University made its local debut with an inaugural forum held at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM).
The launch event drew more than 100 participants from a diverse mix of banks, fintech startups, merchants, and other financial institutions. Attendees engaged in deep-dive sessions exploring payments fundamentals and emerging industry trends, including the rise of agentic commerce and advanced risk solutions.
The initiative underscores Visa’s commitment to cultivating local talent. “The rapidly evolving payments landscape requires leaders who are curious and agile, while being strongly grounded in fundamentals,” said Jeffrey Navarro, Visa Country Manager for the Philippines.
“Through Visa University, we are investing in the development of future payments talent to help strengthen the resilience of the Philippine payments ecosystem,” Navarro continued. “By equipping professionals with the right skills and knowledge, we aim to support the country’s ambitions to build a more inclusive, innovative, and secure digital economy.”
Bridging Global Expertise with Local Application
Visa University is designed to seamlessly complement VCA’s existing strategic advisory services for banks and financial institutions. For its inaugural forum in the Philippines, the platform rolled out fundamental courses tailored specifically for early-career banking employees. These modules covered critical operational areas such as card issuing, acquiring, and credit card profit and loss management.
While this marks a major expansion of localized training, it builds upon Visa’s existing track record in elite financial education. Previously, Visa University partnered with INSEAD, a globally renowned business school, to train local banking executives in emerging payments innovations.
Looking to the future, the platform is actively exploring collaborations with local higher education institutions and professional organizations. These strategic partnerships aim to expand access to financial education and develop bespoke, localized courses and modules tailored to the specific needs of the Philippine market.
