Meta and EssilorLuxottica Launch AI-Ready Ray-Bans

Meta and EssilorLuxottica have launched the Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics and Ray-Ban Meta Scriber Optics, the first smart glasses designed from the ground up for prescription wearers. Available for pre-order in the U.S. starting at $499, with retail rollout on April 14 at optical stores, these models feature a camera, microphone, speakers, and Meta AI integration, but no built-in display.

This move is less about hardware innovation and more about distribution. By targeting the billions who already buy corrective lenses, Meta aims to embed its AI into everyday eyewear through EssilorLuxottica’s vast network, including LensCrafters and Ray-Ban retailers. As CEO Mark Zuckerberg noted, “billions of people wear glasses or contacts for vision correction.”

Demand is booming: Production could double to 20 million units annually by 2026, though higher-end Ray-Ban Display models faced delays due to U.S. shortages. Competition heats up, too, with Google’s 2026 AI glasses via Warby Parker on the horizon.

Meta is betting on channels over specs to dominate the space.
