UCMed Opens Sleep and Wellness Center to Address Growing Sleep Health Concerns in Cebu

The University of Cebu Medical Center (UCMed) has officially opened its Sleep and Wellness Center, a specialized facility dedicated to diagnosing and treating sleep disorders while promoting overall wellness.

Located on the 12th floor of UCMed, the center was inaugurated by UCMed Chairman Atty. Augusto Go, Medical Director Dr. Armando Tan, and Head Pulmonologist Dr. Merci Angelie Letegio Uy. The facility features a state-of-the-art sleep laboratory designed to evaluate conditions such as insomnia, sleep apnea, hypersomnia, narcolepsy, and snoring, which is a common but often overlooked sleep issue.

“Sleep health is a critical but often overlooked aspect of wellness. With the Philippines ranking third worldwide for poor sleep habits, UCMed is committed to providing solutions that improve both safety and quality of life,” said Dr. Tan.

Home-Like Comfort and Holistic Care

The UCMed Sleep and Wellness Center was designed to look and feel like a home environment, allowing patients to sleep comfortably while their rest is monitored for up to 12 hours.

Each procedure includes: diagnosis through overnight monitoring in the sleep lab, treatment or prescription tailored to the patient’s condition, and guidance on self-care practices, which are essential to maintaining effective treatment.

UCMed emphasizes a holistic approach, combining medical expertise with lifestyle support to ensure long-term improvements in sleep health.

Accessibility and Inclusivity

The center accepts patients of all ages, from children to adults, making it a family-friendly facility for comprehensive sleep care. It currently operates with a one-room diagnostic and treatment capacity, ensuring personalized attention and focused care for each patient.

UCMed also ensures accessibility by accepting major HMO plans and offering competitive rates compared to similar facilities in Cebu, making specialized sleep diagnostics and treatments more affordable for the community.

The Sleep and Wellness Center complements UCMed’s broader initiatives, including the recently launched Kalusugan Center, which provides free consultations and screenings for PhilHealth members.
