Cebu Business Community Mobilizes Bayanihan Spirit in Typhoon Tino Response

Typhoon Tino’s devastation across Cebu sparked an immediate and united response from the business community, as Task Force Padayon Cebu mobilized relief operations to support families in need. Over three days, the multi-sectoral initiative delivered food packs, clean water, blankets, and other essentials, embodying the Cebuano spirit of bayanihan in action.

Task Force Padayon Cebu, composed of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry–Visayas, local chambers, associations, and civic groups, led a three-day relief mission across Lapu-Lapu City, Consolacion, Cebu City, Talisay City, and Compostela.

The three-day relief mission began on November 6, when Treasure Island Corporation turned over 10 IBC tanks to the City Government of Lapu-Lapu, ensuring clean and accessible water for affected islet communities. On November 8, operations focused on Consolacion, which received 1,500 food packs from SM Foundation, 10 IBC tanks from Carmen Copper Corporation, as well as trapals, ropes, and blankets from Golden Prince Hotel and Suites. Cebu City likewise benefited from 600 food packs, blankets, slippers, towels, and bath robes, with Crimson Resort and Spa Mactan providing additional comfort items. By November 9, relief efforts extended to Villa del Rio in Cebu City, Talisay City, and Compostela, where 1,370 food packs, 1,000 loaf breads, and water filters were distributed. To ensure aid reached the most vulnerable, the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) conducted a rapid needs assessment in Compostela, identifying Barangay Tamiao Dos as a priority area for targeted assistance.

The mission was made possible through the generosity of SM Foundation, Conching Food Industries, Golden Prince Hotel and Suites, Crimson Resort and Spa Mactan, and other partners. Logistics support from Lalamove, Decoline, and RDAK ensured that relief items reached families despite challenging road conditions.

Adding energy and encouragement, BINI members Aiah and Colet joined the operations on Day 3, alongside youth leaders and influencers. Their presence highlighted the role of young leadership and compassion in community service, bringing smiles and hope to affected families.

Task Force Padayon Cebu will continue its relief efforts, with another round of aid scheduled for November 12 in Danao City. The initiative underscores the private sector’s commitment not only to advancing Cebu’s economic growth but also to uplifting communities in times of crisis.

“In moments of adversity, the Cebuano heart always beats as one,” said CCCI President Jay Yuvallos. “Through unity and compassion, we rise stronger together.”
