Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), the country’s second-busiest gateway, is reinforcing its role as the Philippines’ premier transfer hub with expanded domestic routes, stronger airline partnerships, and enhanced connectivity across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Operated by Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC), the nation’s largest airport operator outside Manila, MCIA is central to AIC Airports’ strategy of growing domestic air connectivity across its portfolio, which also includes Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA) and Laguindingan International Airport (LIA). Among these gateways, MCIA stands out as a strategic hub, offering exclusive routes and seamless transfers that make travel across the archipelago more efficient.
“MCIA is fast becoming the Philippines’ most efficient and accessible transfer hub,” said Rafael M. Aboitiz, Vice President and Head of Airports at AIC. “Through our growing network and strong airline partnerships, we are making it easier for travelers to connect across the archipelago—while delivering a seamless, world-class airport experience that reflects the best of Filipino hospitality.”
Strengthened Airline Partnerships
AirAsia Philippines has ramped up operations at its Cebu hub, offering direct flights to Davao, Iloilo, and Caticlan with increased frequency and convenient schedules. Morning flights to Iloilo and afternoon departures to Caticlan provide flexibility for both business and leisure travelers, while the Cebu–Davao route now operates 18 times weekly, strengthening Visayas–Mindanao connectivity.
Meanwhile, Cebu Pacific continues to expand its domestic network from Cebu, adding direct flights to El Nido, Siargao, and Coron, alongside more than 24 other destinations. To meet peak summer demand, the airline is adding 33 weekly flights beginning March 29, boosting access to Bacolod, Boracay, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Clark, Dumaguete, Iloilo, Tacloban, and El Nido. By mid-June, weekly frequencies will reach up to 23 flights to Butuan and 17 to Bacolod, cementing Cebu’s role as a central gateway.
Growing International Connectivity
MCIA’s domestic expansion is complemented by its growing international reach. The arrival of Philippine Airlines’ Airbus A350-1000 last March 12 marked a milestone, as the first of its kind in Asia. Known for fuel efficiency, quieter engines, and enhanced passenger comfort, the aircraft strengthens Cebu’s position as a hub for long-haul travel.
Cebu as a Seamless Gateway
With 31 direct domestic routes and a network spanning 35 destinations, MCIA offers travelers more options and convenience than ever. Passengers benefit from shorter travel times, direct connections, and smoother transfers, positioning Cebu not just as a destination but as a vital hub linking people to the Philippines’ top cities and world-renowned islands.
