Filipinos can now take a proactive step toward better health as Novo Nordisk partners with Watsons Philippines to offer free obesity screenings in select stores across the country.
In a bid to address the rising incidence of obesity in the Philippines, leading global healthcare company Novo Nordisk has formalized a partnership with Watsons Philippines to make early detection and prevention more accessible to the public.
Under this initiative, 18 Watsons branches nationwide will serve as screening hubs, staffed with trained healthcare providers who will conduct assessments and offer personalized advice. The screenings are designed to help Filipinos understand their obesity risk and take informed steps toward prevention and management.
According to the Food and Nutrition Research Institute, 39% of Filipino adults, or roughly four in ten individuals aged 20 to 59, are living with obesity. This condition significantly increases the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes, and can greatly affect quality of life.
“Obesity can greatly affect a person’s quality of life, which is why we at Novo Nordisk, in partnership with Watsons Philippines, are committed to raising awareness and understanding about obesity,” said Wei Sun, General Manager of Novo Nordisk Philippines. “Through this screening initiative, we aim to make obesity screening more accessible, provide a comprehensive assessment of a person’s risk, and guide them in taking control of their well-being.”
The program is part of Novo Nordisk’s Truth About Weight campaign, which aims to:
- Combat obesity-related stigma
- Promote science-based approaches to care
- Equip healthcare professionals through the BEAT Obesity training program
- Empower consumers with education on obesity as a chronic disease
Watsons Philippines, with over 1,200 stores nationwide, is leveraging its reach to make preventive care more accessible. Many branches operate with extended hours, and an increasing number are open 24/7. Customers can also access Watsons’ services via the mobile app, with options for 3-hour medicine delivery or in-store pickup.
“Partnering with Novo Nordisk strengthens our commitment to making preventive care more accessible and affordable,” said Joweeh B. Liao, Watsons Philippines Director for Health Business Unit, Finance, and Property Development. “By offering free obesity screenings in our stores, we empower families with the knowledge and tools to take control of their health.”
The free obesity screenings will initially be available in 18 participating Watsons stores. For the full list of locations and schedules, customers are encouraged to follow Watsons Philippines’ official social media pages.
This collaboration marks a significant step in the fight against obesity, bringing preventive healthcare closer to communities and making it easier for Filipinos to take charge of their health.
