If you are planning to fly to Europe via Singapore, Singapore Airlines (SIA) has just announced a massive expansion of its European network. Starting in the second half of 2026, the flag carrier is adding a brand-new route to Spain and significantly increasing flight frequencies to some of the continent’s most popular hubs.
For Filipinos, connecting through Singapore’s world-class Changi Airport remains one of the most seamless ways to reach Europe. With a short 3.5 to 4-hour hop from Manila or Cebu to Singapore, you can break up the long journey, enjoy award-winning transit facilities, and catch a direct flight to your final European destination.
A New Gateway to Spain: Hello, Madrid!
The biggest headline for leisure and business travelers is the launch of a brand-new route to Madrid, making it SIA’s 15th destination in Europe and its second in Spain.
Starting October 26, 2026, SIA will operate five flights a week from Singapore to Madrid, with a convenient stopover in Barcelona. This replaces the previous Singapore-Milan-Barcelona routing, shifting the focus directly to Spain’s vibrant capital.
Madrid is a dream destination for Filipinos, offering world-class museums like the Prado, the stunning Royal Palace, and a legendary food scene. It also serves as a massive financial and business hub, making it highly relevant for corporate travelers.
More Daily Options for the UK
Planning a trip to London or the British countryside? SIA is making it easier to get there with increased daily frequencies:
Manchester: Starting July 13, 2026, flights from Singapore to Manchester will increase from five times a week to daily. This is great news for Filipinos visiting family in Northern England or connecting to other parts of the UK.
London Gatwick: From October 25, 2026, SIA will increase its Gatwick services to daily. Combined with their four daily flights to London Heathrow, you will now have six daily flight options to London.
Boosted Frequencies to Mainland Europe
If your Euro-trip itinerary includes Italy or Germany, you will benefit from more flexible scheduling:
Milan, Italy: Flights will increase from four times a week to daily starting October 25, 2026. Perfect for fashion, food, and lake-hopping enthusiasts.
Munich, Germany: SIA is launching a new three-times-weekly service to Munich starting October 26, 2026. This brings the total number of weekly flights to the Bavarian capital to 10, offering incredible flexibility for those heading to Oktoberfest or the Alps.
What This Means for Your Travel Comfort
For the new Singapore-Barcelona-Madrid route, SIA will deploy its Airbus A350-900 long-haul variant. This is a massive win for Filipino travelers who want long-haul comfort without paying Business Class fares.
The aircraft features 253 seats configured in a highly desirable three-class layout.
Tickets for the highly anticipated new Madrid service will go on sale in June 2026. Tickets for the increased frequencies to Manchester, Milan, Munich, and London Gatwick will be released progressively in the coming months.
While Middle Eastern carriers often dominate the Philippine-to-Europe market, routing via Singapore offers distinct advantages:
Shorter First Leg: The flight from the Philippines to Singapore is much shorter than flying to the Middle East, making the first leg of your journey less exhausting.
Changi Airport Perks: Singapore’s Changi Airport is consistently ranked as the best in the world. You can enjoy free movie theaters, butterfly gardens, and excellent lounges during your layover.
Premium Economy: SIA’s Premium Economy is widely considered one of the best in the skies, offering extra legroom, wider seats, and priority services, a lifesaver for the long stretch between Singapore and Europe.
Schengen & UK Flexibility: With new entry points in Madrid, Munich, and Milan, Filipinos holding Schengen visas have more options for their first point of entry. Meanwhile, the boosted UK flights make visiting the UK easier than ever.
