FACT-CHECK: Japanese manga character photo used for a quote of GMA Network CEO Felipe Gozon

A Facebook account used a photo of a Japanese manga character instead of GMA Network CEO Felipe Gozon on an ABS-CBN News quote card.

CLAIM: A Japanese manga character said the TV war is over between ABS-CBN and GMA

RATING: SATIRE

A Facebook account used a photo of a Japanese manga character instead of GMA Network CEO Felipe Gozon’s on an ABS-CBN’s News quote card on Thursday, June 29.

While the entire statement in the quote card is true, the photo of GMA Network chairman and CEO Felipe Gozon was changed to an image of Mitsuyoshi Anzai, a character from the Japanese manga series “Slamdunk.”

While the photo was used for comedic purposes, the post in question and the page where it was posted were not labeled as satirical, which could mislead the public especially since it used the actual quote card of ABS-CBN, an established media company. – Xander Lauren Cipriano
